Can laser hair removal be performed on men?
Absolutely. Men suffer from unwanted hair problem even more so than woman. Laser hair removal can be performed on almost all body parts. Typically, our male patients request laser hair removal for their backs, shoulders, chest, abdominal, face, neck, beard, buttocks, scrotum, perianal, arms and legs. How does a laser remove hair?
The laser emits a gentle beam of light that passes harmlessly through the skin , to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed. Upon absorption, the laser energy is transformed into heat, which can disable the follicle.

Is laser treatment painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as a series of slight pin pricks to the skin. The majority of patients tolerate this sensation without a problem. However, we can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area before treatment. Patients, prior to your laser session (if you decide to use the topical anesthetic the Physician has prescribed), shave the area to be treated and wrap the areas in Saran wrap an hour before your laser treatment for better absorption.

How many treatments will I need?
Your hair grows in cycles. The laser only affects hair when it is in its early growth phase. In fact, the laser will only disable follicles that are actively producing hair at the time of treatment. At any time, some follicles are dormant. REPEATED sessions will be necessary to treat these follicles when they re-enter the growth phase. Approximately 3-7 treatments at 6 week intervals will be needed depending on your skin type.

What should I expect after a laser session?
After-effects vary from patient to patient. Typically, within several minutes, the treated area may become slightly red and puffy. This reaction subsides quickly, usually within a day. Since our laser system does not cut the skin in any way, you can return to normal activity immediately.

How do I know if I am a good candidate for laser treatment?
Generally speaking, if you are concerned about unwanted hair, then you are probably a candidate for laser hair removal. The most dramatic results will occur for those with light skin and dark hair. Our office has the latest FDA approved laser for tanned skin, black skin, brown skin and all skin of color. Other factors can influence the treatment process, but are generally best evaluated and discussed in person.
